There are over 100 different chiropractic techniques, Gonstead is known as "the gold standard" of chiropractic. It is the most precise full spine technique in chiropractic and addresses not only biomechanics, but neurology.
The Gonstead technique is acknowledged as one of the safest and most effective systems of evaluating and caring for the spine and central nerve system.
Most chiropractic techniques treat patients generally, meaning you may be getting the same exact adjustment as the person before you, and after you.
However, Gonstead chiropractic is specific to you, your spine, and your central nerve system. Being specific means we take out the guesswork when it comes to your spine, ultimately giving you faster results that last.
There are five components to the Gonstead analysis, through which the major subluxations (areas of nerve irritation or pressure) are determined. We will know the exact vertebra needed to be adjusted that day, and exactly which direction it needs to be adjusted in. No two subluxations are alike, and no two patients are alike. Gonstead doctors don't guess when it comes to your health.
We are trained to observe subtle postural and movement nuances, aiding in a comprehensive evaluation of your spine's condition. When a nerve becomes irritated, the cellular tissue that the nerve controls also as a result becomes irritated. Chronic irritation along the spine can produce muscular knots, tension, and imbalances.
The instrument of choice in the Gonstead System is the Nervoscope. The Nervoscope detects uneven distributions of heat along the spine which can be indicative of inflammation and nerve pressure. Think of it as a diagnostic tool, like checking a circuit breaker, ensuring precise adjustments are made to only affected areas, and only when necessary.
This is the process of feeling (i.e. palpating) your spine in a static position. The goal is to uncover the presence of swelling (or edema), tenderness and any abnormal texture or tightness in the muscles and other tissues of your back. Irritation or pressure on a nerve can cause dysfunction in the tissues beyond that region, which may be acting as areas of compensation.
This is the process of moving your spine through different angles and ranges of motion to feel the individual vertebrae for abnormal movement. It helps determine the exact direction of any misalignment.
Our full-spine, weight-bearing X-rays enable us to visualize the entire structure of your spine and to evaluate your posture, vertebral misalignments, and joint and disc integrity. We are also able to rule out any pathologies or fractures that may be present or contributing to your condition by looking at the totality of the spine. This is key to precise analysis and customized, effective corrective procedures.
